What we are looking for:

The Unit Secretary is a valuable member of the NICU and has a significant impact on the efficient and effective operation of the department. The successful candidate will be responsible for both clerical and receptionist duties as well as patient registration. Although the primary location is the NICU you will be an integral part of a team of Unit Secretaries and therefore will be trained to work in all areas of the Childbirth and Children’s Program.

 

The clerical aspect of the role includes: patient registration, filing, recording, organizing and entering physician orders into the computer, photocopying, faxing documents, arranging patient transfers, reordering supplies as needed. The successful candidate will have demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, work within a team environment, set priorities and multi task proficiently.

 

The receptionist aspect of the role includes: receiving visitors, patients and/or hospital personnel on the department, answering and directing telephone calls to the appropriate personnel, scheduling appointments and giving information related to patient care as authorized by a Registered Nurse. This wole will also support payroll and timekeeping.

 

 What you bring to the role:

· Previous hospital unit secretary experience

· Experience in a Maternal/Child Unit is required

· Sound knowledge of medical terminology

· Proficient computer and typing skills

· Strong customer service, interpersonal and written and verbal communication skills

· Ability to prioritize and manage multiple demands in a fast pace environment

· Strong critical thinking, problem solving and decision-making skills with a high attention to detail

· Excellent organizational skills

· Demonstrated ability to work effectively within an interprofessional team as well as independently

· Demonstrated good attendance and performance record with the ability to maintain this same standard

· Demonstrated commitment to a healthy and safe workplace for self and others (staff, patients, families, etc.) by taking all reasonable precautions and working in compliance with hospital related policies, health and safety legislation and best practices and completing relevant mandatory education as required

 

 WORK SCHEDULE:

The successful candidate will work evenings/days and weekends. Please note, schedules may change based on departmental needs. 

 

Compensation:

BAND CUP03: $25.93 – $29.17 per hour
