The PCICU is the referral center for the Western Canadian Children’s Heart Network and receives approximately 450 children/year post open heart surgery, making it the second busiest congenital heart surgery program in Canada. It is also the ECMO/VAD referral site for most of Western Canada. All forms of non-cardiac pediatric critical illness are managed at the Stollery Children’s Hospital PICU.
