Job Description:
Position Overview:
Reporting to the Patient Care Manager, you will work independently within your scope of practice when the patient’s condition indicates predictable outcome and you will deliver nursing care based on a pre-set plan of care with a delineated range of intervention. You will collaborate with and get directions from the RN in situations that are beyond the scope of complexity designated to you as a RPN. You will be part of a busy department with beds for palliative care patients, as well as oncology and general medical patients and a team whose focus is on maximizing the patient’s health and function. In this unit, there is a staffing mix of both RNs and RPNs. In this role, you will you will engage in ethical conduct and you will provide high quality nursing care to patients and their families, based on the philosophy and conceptual framework of Nursing Practice at Scarborough Health Network. You will strive to understand and appreciate the diversity of our patient population and workforce.
Requirements:
•Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario
•Current BCLS
•Completed medication course for RPN’s
•Patient assessment skills within the RPN scope of practice
•Must be willing to work with mixed aggregation of patients
•Proven excellent interpersonal and communication skills both written and verbal
•Demonstrated excellent problem-solving, decision making and critical thinking skills
•Demonstrated excellent organizational, time-management and team building skills
•Demonstrated initiative and the ability to function both independently and as a multidisciplinary team member in a fast paced demanding environment
•Demonstrated excellent interpersonal, communication and documentation skills
•Demonstrated focus on internal/external customer service and partnerships
•Demonstrates values consistent with SHN’s Code of Conduct and is committed to fostering a healthy and positive work environment in accordance with Health & Safety policy and legislation.
•Utilize protective equipment provided and identify and reports hazards
•Engages in ethical conduct and strives to understand and appreciate the diversity of our patient/staff population and community
•Strong work ethic and commitment is required
•Demonstrated high standards of work outputs
•Highly punctual
•Demonstrated professionalism and reliability
Asset:
•Palliative and/or Oncology certification preferred
•Previous experience with Oncology or Palliative Care preferred
•Recent relevant nursing experience in oncology/palliative care or approved courses
•Patient Assessment course
•Ability to speak another language
