What we are looking for:

This community midwife position will support early discharge from the Alongside Midwifery Unit program and the Childbirth and Children’s Services program by providing the following services:

  • Daily coordination with midwives, obstetricians, family medicine, paediatrics and nursing to identify and coordinate early discharge planning as soon after birth as possible.
  • Facilitating patient teaching and discharge planning care.
  • Providing virtual on call advice and care for families at home post discharge.
  • Providing home visits for family post discharge, ensuring safe, high quality follow up for hospital, clinic, or office visits, for newborn screening, jaundice screening and CCHD screening.
  • To step in and provide relief for sick colleagues and colleagues who are needing to self-isolate or quarantine.
  • To provide gaps in service needs to our partners and patients on the obstetrical unit, for example stepping into the primary care role, supportive care in labour, assisting at codes, assisting at caesarean sections, assisting with postpartum discharge planning and teaching.

 

 

What you bring to the role:

  • Current Certificate of Registration with the College of midwives
  • Demonstrated role as a resource and role model to junior midwives and learners
  • Excellent physical assessment skills
  • Proficient computer and writing skills
  • Familiar with professional and hospital standards, guidelines and procedures
  • Demonstrated commitment to a people friendly /family centered care environment
  • Demonstrated excellent critical thinking and problem solving skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively within an interprofessional team as well as independently
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and teaching skills
  • Excellent organizational skills with an ability to prioritize
  • Experience in leading organization and team change
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development, continuing education and leadership experience
  • Demonstrated good attendance record with the ability to maintain this same standard

 

 

Work Schedule:

The successful candidate would be required to work 8 hour days, evenings and weekend and holidays. Please note schedules may change due to operational needs.

 

Compensation:

$63.86 per hour
