The York Region District School Board (YRDSB) supports a flexible working culture and currently provides the opportunity for employees to work from home in addition to working in the office for some positions. The YRDSB implemented Working From Home Guidelines to facilitate this work option. Please note, this does not apply for school based positions.

In compliance with Board policies and procedures, responsible for the overall management of all plant and facility related systems and programs including construction, maintenance, custodial operations, energy management, recycling programs, capital renewal projects, security, training, facility infrastructure and quality standards.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

To manage all activities related to custodial operations, operations of buildings and building systems.

To manage all activities related to new construction, and maintenance of all board facilities.

To maintain the Board’s inventory and condition of all board facilities.

To hire, supervise, conduct employee performance appraisals and participate in the grievance and disciplinary process as required.

To prepare and maintain operating, renewal and capital budgets and construction schedules for implementation of the Board’s capital strategy.

To oversee and manage information reported to the Ministry of Education related to new schools and renovations and additions to existing schools.

To oversee the prequalification process, tendering process and evaluation of tenders for capital projects.

To prepare and evaluate the requests for proposals related to professional services such as architectural, mechanical, electrical, construction management and design build.

To liaise with municipal planning and building departments for project approvals and joint use of facilities.

To review and evaluate suitability of new school sites and programs with Planning Services.

To establish and maintain new school specifications and standards for architects and engineering consultants.

To manage, review and revise the plant and facilities components of the Board’s business continuity plan.

To attend and participate in various working groups and committees as required.

To perform other duties as assigned.

LINE OF RESPONSIBILITY:

Responsible to the Associate Director, Corporate and School Services.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:

A Bachelor’s degree in engineering, architecture or a related discipline with a Professional designation is required. PMP (Project Management Professional) , LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) or equivalent are considered an asset.

A minimum of ten years in facilities management ,construction, maintenance and operation of buildings and building systems or related experience is required, with at least 5 years in a supervisory or managerial role.

Strong Leadership and team management skills.

Excellent project management skills, including supervision of staff, planning, scheduling, budgeting, project control and risk analysis.

Through knowledge of building codes, safety regulations, and construction standards in Ontario.

Effective verbal and written communication, interpersonal, strong management and leadership skills are required.

Ability to work collaboratively with senior leadership, board trustees, principals, municipalities, and other stakeholders.

Must possess a valid Ontario Driver’s License and have access to own transportation.

Important Information for CUPE 1734 Members:

LA.11.7 Those twelve (12) month employees filling vacancies as a result of their applying to a job posting are to remain twelve (12) months at their position. Ten (10) month employees are to remain in their position until the end of the school year. This requirement can be waived with permission from the Superintendent responsible for Human Resource Services. This does not prevent employees from applying for a position or from applying for a promotion during the twelve (12) month period.
