Mechanic

The Mechanic will assist other technicians in improving machinery and processes, evaluating systems, identifying issues, and offering solutions to problems in strict accordance with the production system and under the premise of ensuring safety and product quality. He will test and calibrate machinery to ensure it is operating at maximum efficiency. He will also perform preventive maintenance on industrial equipment, replace broken or malfunctioning components, clean, lubricate, or adjust parts, equipment, or machinery.

Responsibilities

  • Repair, install, maintain, improve and troubleshoot various types of machines, equipment and facilities in production departments.
  • Ensure and increase the reliability, performance and longevity of equipment: different conveyors, grinders, extruders, filtration systems, and pneumatic, hydraulic and pumping systems.
  • Diagnose mechanical problems, provide rapid and innovative solutions for mechanical equipment breakdown by applying proven skills in the principles of mechanics, assembly, plumbing, basic welding, metal fabrication, machining, troubleshooting and resolving analytical problems.
  • Operate a mill, lathe, drill, grinder, saw, and all other useful machine shops.
  • Installation, removal and reinstallation of processes and equipment
  • Modify packaging machines for new product processes
  • Perform preventative maintenance and safety inspections
  • Provide solutions to routine or unique equipment problems
  • Quickly respond to equipment-related questions in a customer-oriented manner
  • Contact the equipment manufacturer for troubleshooting if necessary
  • Send a request to an equipment manufacturer to modify the machines to improve performance and efficiency.
  • Complete maintenance records and document work performed.
  • Collaborate with maintenance and production teams to identify and address equipment issues.
  • Keep work area clean and organized to ensure a safe and efficient work environment.
  • Following the directives and instructions of his direct supervisor regarding his assignment and rotation to the various workstations.
  • Complying with occupational health and safety standards (example: wearing PPE, lockout, etc.)
  • Following the handover and cleaning procedures at the end of the shift.

Qualifications

  • E.P or equivalent technical degree in mechanics or related field.
  • (3-5) years of experience in mechanical maintenance and repair in an industrial setting.
  • 1 year or more of experience in the recycling field is an asset.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office application (Outlook)
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and manuals.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical systems and basic electrical system repairs, including troubleshooting and repair techniques.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Good communication skills (ability to clearly explain technical issues to non-technical staff), organization, manual dexterity.
  • Patient, perseverant and resourceful.
  • Ability to physically bend and frequently lift items when required
  • Ability to lift weights up to 45 pounds/20 kg.
  • Good vision
  • Ability to work with people from diverse cultures.
  • Highly reliable and consistent.
  • Familiarity with safety regulations and procedures related to maintenance and repair work.
  • Familiarity with lockout, tagout and fall protection procedures.
  • Fluent in English or French; bilingualism is preferred.
  • Background Checks (References, Criminal and Medical checks) are a must.
