About the role

The Senior Metallurgist is part of the Process Sector team and reports to the Metallurgy and Process Superintendent – Continuous Improvement. He/She is responsible for process optimization and metallurgical accounting. He/She ensures that production, metallurgical yields, operating costs, health & safety and environmental objectives are met. The Senior Metallurgist adheres to the company’s principles by adopting a management approach geared towards sustainable development, an operation for excellence and the organization’s code of conduct.

Essential Duties

  • Provide metallurgical technical support for the following operations: crushing, grinding, gravimetry, flotation, filtration, cyanidation/CIP/elution, cyanide destruction and paste backfill, water treatment.
  • Ensure, on a daily basis and with a view to continuous improvement, the achievement of plant objectives and process stability.
  • Coordinate and supervise the metallurgy department, including refinery and metallurgy laboratory activities.
  • Ensure proper supervision and management of gold safety at the refinery
  • Plan and coordinate laboratory tests to optimize metallurgical yields according to established priorities
  • Validate metallurgical balances and monitor performance indicators
  • Investigate and establish action plans in the event of OHS, environmental or production loss events, and ensure their progress.
  • Respect, understand and promote company regulations and policies, particularly in the area of health and safety.
  • Ensure the concentrator’s technological development, in partnership with the operations, electrical, instrumentation and mechanical groups.
  • Develop and maintain tools for monitoring operations and projects under development
  • All tasks related to the performance of duties

Training & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in process engineering, chemical engineering, materials and metallurgical engineering or mining engineering, ore processing option
  • Minimum 8 years’ relevant experience
  • Experience in mining and/or metallurgical plants
  • Experience in concentrator start-up (an asset)
  • Experience in the development and execution of plant projects
  • Bilingual (English/French)
