CN Payroll is looking for a Senior Payroll Representative to join the team. This position requires timely and precise responses to various inquiries from employees, human resources, government agencies, and vendors, among others. The Senior Payroll Representative is also responsible for handling payroll remittances, employee tax updates, and other payroll tasks.
Major Responsibilities
· Provide superior employee services by prioritizing requests concerning the calculation of mandatory and voluntary deductions, underpayments, overpayments, other data reported on the Statement of Earnings and data reported on year-end tax slips. Adept at bringing effective and rapid resolution is imperative to sustain CN’s highly professional service excellence
· Handle inquiries from various parties such as, but not limited to, Government Agencies, Vendors, Supervisors, Timekeepers, Auditors, Information Technology as well as the Human Resources Department. Accurate understanding of issues to be resolved with these stakeholders is essential to ensure adequate support of the Payroll & Time Team
· In accordance with legal deadlines, manage and process various remittances and deductions in a timely manner. These include, but are not limited to, Canadian federal and provincial withholdings, various provincial health taxes and employee share plans. Solid knowledge of Payroll legislation is required to ensure full compliance with CN’s obligations
· Process key employee data such as, but not limited to, tax exemptions (including letter of exemptions) and personal tax credit forms as well as ensure employees are taxed properly based on work province. Timely processing of these items is critical to reflect employees’ tax withholdings obligation
· Manage vacation quotas and vacation pay outs for active and terminated employees
· Maintain key functions which include maternity top-ups, income averaging, safety equipment, union dues, sabbatical leaves, and retirement processing
· Handle specific Payroll Accounting activities such as, but not limited to, miscellaneous journal entries, voucher payments to vendors and account clearing
· Under the guidance of managers, take necessary actions to improve processes
· Other duties and initiatives as assigned

· Fluently bilingual, written and verbal (English, French)
· Knowledge of Human Resources, Payroll and Time modules in SAP is an asset
· Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
· Bachelor’s degree in accounting
· Accounting designation and/or National Payroll Institute certifications are considered assets
· Experience in a payroll environment is an asset
Working Conditions
· Standard working conditions in an office environment with a regular workweek from Monday to Friday
· Must be able to meet tight deadlines, handle pressure and manage stress
This position is a unionized position. As such, pay and benefits are governed by the applicable collective agreement.
