About Us
The Medicine Hat Public School Division is located within the boundaries of the city of Medicine Hat and serves just approximately 7,000 students. The Division is comprised of three high schools, four middle schools (including Christian education focus and a virtual online school), 14 elementary schools, (including a virtual online learning school, STEM centered learning school, arts centered learning school and a variety of alternative programs).

Position Overview
The Transportation Coordinator is responsible for working with transportation service providers to plan, develop, and maintain safe and efficient student transportation routes. This role is vital in ensuring compliance with provincial laws, Division policies, and regulations while maintaining high standards of safety. As the first point of contact for transportation inquiries, the Coordinator will also provide excellent customer service to parents, contractors, and staff.
The working hours are Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM. However, flexibility to work outside of these regular hours is required.
Key Responsibilities
Route Coordination : Develop, adjust, and maintain bus routes that are safe and efficient, including updates to digital maps for posting on the School Division’s website.
Collaboration and Communication : Work closely with transportation service providers, school administrators, parents, and other stakeholders to ensure reliable and cost-effective transportation services and act as the primary contact for day-to-day transportation inquiries, keeping all stakeholders informed of any changes or disruptions to service.
Special ized Transportation Coordination : Facilitate transportation solutions for specialized programs, including alternative transportation options.
Budget & Fiscal Management : Complete the annual Alberta Transportation Grant Application form(s) and manage the transportation budget, track expenditures, and submit biannual reports to the Secretary Treasurer.
Compliance and Safety : Ensure all drivers and contractors meet certification, licensing, and insurance requirements and monitor bus video surveillance in accordance with FOIP policies.
Data Management : Operate transportation software and maintain the GIS data associated to optimize routes, manage student information and complete data projections.
Required Skills and Experience
Technical Expertise : Experience in transportation routing and data management. Knowledge of GIS routing software (e.g., Transfinder) is an asset.
Local Knowledge : Familiarity with the City of Medicine Hat’s layout and streets is an asset.
School Division Experience : Previous experience working within a school division is preferred.
Financial Acumen : Strong understanding of budgeting and financial management.
Communication Skills : Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to interact professionally with a wide range of stakeholders.
Problem-Solving : Strong decision-making abilities, capable of handling high-pressure situations while prioritizing multiple tasks.
Technological Proficiency : Proficient in Microsoft Office, Google Docs, and other related software.
