About the Job:

This is a CASUAL OPPORTUNITY. Casual means hours are not guaranteed and may vary and shifts may be at short notice. As a Health Care Assistant (Patient Care Aide) you will work as an integral part of a dynamic, multi-disciplinary team, who provide care and support in an Acute setting. Working under the direction of nurses, HCA’s have key responsibilities in the individual care plan for each patient to meet their physical, emotional and social needs. We are currently looking for Patient Care Aides to join out RIH GT8 team.

The unit is 30 beds – all private patient rooms. It has four high obs surgical/eight trauma/eight stroke and ten neurosciences (post op neuro patients, or neuro diagnosis). This unit is located in the new Gaglardi Tower 8th Floor that opened July 17, 2022. The building has state of the art technology and equipment, and private rooms that are clean and spacious.

As a Long-term Care Attendant (LTCA) you will work as an integral part of a dynamic, multi-disciplinary team, who provide care and support in a long-term care setting. Working under the direction of nurses, LTCA’s have key responsibilities in the individual care plan for each resident to meet their physical, emotional and social needs. We are currently looking for Long-Term Care Attendant’s to join our team at Ponderosa.

Ponderosa Lodge has 136 short term beds (68 First Appropriate Bed & 68 Pathway to Home which include convalescent and respite care). It is a multi-level brick building built in the heart of downtown Kamloops, one block from Royal Inland Hospital. Our individual -centered philosophy is designed to support individuals’ choices, help people function at their highest level and provide the best quality of life possible.

Ponderosa West is a brand new extension of the current Ponderosa Lodge Convalescent Care Program. Located in the previous 1 South location in the Alumnae Tower at Royal Inland Hospital (RIH), this program is fully separate from RIH. The Ponderosa West team loves to support education, and uses team based care. Ponderosa West has 24 Convalescent Care beds for clients with an expected shorter length of stay. Six of the 24 beds are designated Psycho-geriatric beds. The goal for those beds is to stabilize and acclimatize those clients to the Long-term Care setting and routines so they can be discharged to and cared for in any LTC home.

Qualfications
• Grade 12
• Graduation from a recognized Resident Care Aide/Home Support Worker Program, or an equivalent combination of education, training and relevant experience
• BC Care Aide and Community Health Worker registry (please include your number)
