The department is responsible for design and validation of the combustion section of turbofan, turboprop, and turboshaft engines. The aerothermal design process uses various numerical tools, including CFD simulations, with validation testing in rigs and engines. This internship will focus on improving the combustion CFD prediction process by evaluating and implementing improvements to batch meshing using PyFluent, parameterization and mesh optimization. Some preliminary evaluation of the impact of the mesh on NOx emissions predictions will also be explored. The Combustion Aero/Thermal Analyst intern will have the following key responsibilities: Use ANSYS Fluent Mesher to generate mesh then run combustion CFD simulations Establish a methodology for automatic meshing using PyFluent Develop mesh Parameterization and Optimization guidelines Investigate the impact of the mesh characteristics on emissions prediction with primary focus on NOx Summarize and present findings Document the findings in reports What your day to day will look like: Generate, review and test CFD models/methodologies to develop guidelines as to the impact of mesh characteristics on predicted results Summarize and present findings to peers Support improvement of the current CFD process What you need to be successful: Must haves: Be eligible to work in Canada Be enrolled in a Canadian university throughout your internship Be able to work on-site in the province where you are hired Pursuing a Master’s or PhD degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, Chemical Engineering or Engineering Physics Good oral and written communication skills in English (spoken/written). French is an asset. Ability to work independently as well as in teams Solid understanding of Fluid mechanics, Thermodynamics and Heat transfer Proficiency in ANSYS CAD tools (SpaceClaim, Design Modeller and Discovery) Proficiency in ANSYS Fluent Mesher and Fluent Solver Experience with CFD post/Tecplot Exposure to combustion CFD Basic understanding of programming language (C/C++, Python, MATLAB) Assets: Organizational skills and ability to work under pressure with competing and varying priorities Project management skills Work Environment What my role type is: Onsite only, 5 days/week Diversity, Equity & Inclusion The masculine pronoun is used without discrimination and solely for the purpose of making the text easier to read.
