Job Description:
Under the direction of a Manager and as part of the ?interdisciplinary team, the Community Mental Health Nurse provides a complex range of screening, triage, assessment, treatment and case coordination services to a community mental health and addictions population The incumbent provides program consultation and co-ordination, evaluation of clinical interventions, supervision, preceptor students in formal clinical practicum, and provides professional and public education regarding mental health and addiction issues and resources. The incumbent will provide nursing leadership and clinical expertise in the development and maintenance of community mental health and addiction treatment programs, and ensure nursing practice standards are maintained.
Education
- Graduation from an approved school of psychiatric nursing or graduation from an approved school of general nursing supplemented by recognized training in psychiatric nursing.
- Possession of and ability to maintain a current registration as a Psychiatric Nurse in the Province of Saskatchewan (RPNAS).
Experience
- Must have a minimum of 2 years (post graduate) recent recognized Mental Health & Addiction experience.
Licenses
- Basic Life Support Certificate (BLS)
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Excellent knowledge and skills related to community psychiatric nursing practice including but not limited to assessment, triage, treatment, case management and medication usage, side effects. Ability to identify and evaluate areas of client difficulty across a wide range of clinical presentations and formulate evidence based interventions. Extensive knowledge of community resources is essential. Considerable work experience with mental health and addictions community outreach and competence in delivering mental health and addiction crisis interventions. Demonstrated ability to implement a variety of intervention strategies (individual and group) for adults with mental health and addictions problems in a community based setting. Able to work independently and in a self motivated manner, ability to respond under pressure. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and in partnership with a multidisciplinary team and other agencies in the community. Demonstrated cultural competency skills. Knowledge and practical application of the Mental Health Services Act. Demonstrated leadership skills, workload management and administration skills. ?Excellent consultation and public relation skills with the ability to maintain effective work relationships. Excellent interpersonal competence including effective problem solving, decision making and conflict resolution skills. Excellent communication skills ? both written and oral. Ability to prepare reports in a clear, concise and timely manner and ability to provide public presentations and professional training. Ability to enter and retrieve data in a computer database system.
