The position of Pharmacy Services Manager is a key leadership role reporting directly to the Director of Pharmacy Services for the Alberta Hospital Edmonton (AHE), Sturgeon Community Hospital (SCH) and Suburban Hospitals Edmonton Zone (SHEZ). The manager will be accountable for the overall performance of pharmacy services ensuring alignment with zone strategies and initiatives and compliance with Alberta College of Pharmacists regulations and standards. This position is responsible and accountable for providing operational leadership and decision making for direct patient care, drug distribution, education and practice research. The Pharmacy Services Manager will be required to develop and maintain strong working relationships with key stakeholders providing optimal and integrated services. Travel between AHE, SCH and the SHEZ sites is required, with the incumbent expected to begin work in the role in the next 6 weeks.
The Pharmacy Services Manager, is responsible for: leadership of the pharmacists at the AHE, SCH and the SHEZ sites, facilitating and sustaining the learning needs of clinical pharmacists, facilitating and sustaining the learning needs of clinical pharmacists, identifying budget requirements for the site (human, material and capital resources) to safely meet department and patient needs and optimize the pharmacy workforce on that site, and resolving complex and challenging problems concerning human resources management and staffing levels in a unionized environment, to ensure adequate service levels are maintained.
A minimum of Baccalaureate degree in Pharmacy, and eligible or registered with the Alberta College of Pharmacists. A minimum of 5 years in a hospital pharmacy role, ideally in an organization of significant size, complexity and diversity. Effective communication skills with strong organizational skills, influential skills, and patient focused orientation and commitment to providing quality services. Leadership skills, including demonstrated ability and comfort with decision making responsibilities, coaching and teaching, and the ability to inspire and build confidence in others. Demonstrated ability to manage change and create innovative solutions for complex and diverse issues. Ability to manage human, financial and physical resources within an operating environment. Proven ability to foster partnerships and to achieve organizational goals within an organization and ideally managing within a unionized sector. Strong track record in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
Effective leadership abilities combined with a strong commitment to operating within a tight-knit team environment and the ability to motivate and inspire others to achieve common goals. Excellent analytical and decision-making skills. Ability to plan, organize and manage short- and long-term plans and projects and deliver customer-focused results. Ability to foster a climate of cooperation amongst, and build solid relationships with public agencies, government, committees and other partners. A demonstrated clear pattern of professional and personal development.
Leadership experience over a period of at least 2 – 3 years in a hospital pharmacy environment.
